Holiday Explorers is a non-profit organisation providing respite for families caring for people over the age of 16 with intellectual disability in South Australia by facilitating their participation in and enjoyment of holidays. If you know anyone who may be interested and available to volunteer with Holiday Explorers please contact their Volunteer Team on 8331 2399 or go to www.holidayexplorers.com.au for more information.
The Nancy Ellen Crooks Foundation (NECF) is also a non-profit organization. The foundation was established to honour a great woman by continuing to carry on her passion to improve the lives of women and children in Africa through opportunity and education. It is committed to perpetuating Nancy’s devotion to supporting, implementing and developing self-sustaining projects that hold the possibility of improving the lives of women and children in Africa and Chic continues to support them because Liz met Nancy and did volunteer work with her years ago in remote areas of Kenya. Nancy was one of the pioneers in promoting solar cooking in Kenya. The NECF is able to provide families with solar cookers for less than $25, including the cost of training. Our donations also go to the "Lights for Learning Project". The Foundation believes that education opens doors and that no child should miss out on the opportunity to learn. The majority of students in remote areas of Kenya live in homes without electricity. Once the sun sets, these students rely on candlelight or kerosene lanterns to do their homework and assignments. Unfortunately, many of the families cannot afford the candles or kerosene which means the students cannot see to do their homework. The NECF provides eligible students with solar lanterns so they can complete their studies and also have the means to read at will. Solar Lanterns provide up to 8 hours of light on a full charge and require very little maintenance. For as little as $12 we can bring light to a Kenyan child's home.
